Eat More and Lose…?

The truth to the matter is that you do have to eat less to lose, BUT you still have to eat enough to support
your lean body mass. In other words, you need to feed your muscle and starve the fat. Let’s say your
body is an airplane making an attempt to take off from Florida and fly to New York. If you are going to make
it to New York, you had better have enough fuel to get there. If not, then you would be throwing off any
additional weight to lighten the load while simultaneously slowing the engines down to conserve more fuel.
Your body is no different. Let’s say you need 2,000 calories to run on efficiently. This is the amount
needed to feed your organs, muscle and bones. However, you are only taking in 1,200 calories. You
would think this would lead to fat loss, but guess what…you are wrong. Your body would actually think to
itself, “If I don’t have enough energy coming in to feed my organs and muscles, then I need to start getting
rid of what is using the energy and find away to store more “needed” energy.” In other words, you would
begin to lose muscle and store fat. Fat is your body’s number one preferred form of stored energy.

Why Breakfast?

So what’s the big deal about breakfast? Wouldn't skipping a meal and eating less be a better bet for one
to lose those extra pounds, especially when it comes to breakfast? Who has time for it anyhow?

First off, skipping breakfast would be the absolute worst thing for you. Did you know studies have
shown that not eating within an hour after waking will lead to your body storing an additional 30 to 40%
of your first meal as FAT!  You need to realize that your body has been in a fast for over 8 to 10 hours.
During that time, your body has had to rely on stored sugar from the day before. Your central nervous
system runs primarily on sugar (Glycogen). Believe it or not, your body will be depleted from most of
what you ate the day before and need more food or energy for the new day. Once you wake up, you
signal your fine piece of machinery to look for energy(food) to rev through the day. If you don’t get that
energy source quick, your body will jump into energy search and energy save mode. In other words,
your body will drastically slow down it’s metabolism to conserve energy while find ways to break down
calorie burning muscle and store energy useful fat.  We call this STARVATION MODE.
